The Movement

Ride. Rise. Shine.

01

Ride

Movement is medicine. Every session is therapy. The pavement doesn't judge — it just catches you when you commit.

02

Rise

We rise by lifting others. No gatekeeping. No hierarchy. Your first kickflip matters as much as your thousandth.

03

Shine

Be the light in someone's darkest day. Be the spark that refuses to go out. That's not a slogan — it's a responsibility.

The Journey

Built from legacy.

Every brand has a story. Ours started with a kid on a skateboard and an uncle who never stopped believing in him.

1996

A Spark Is Born

Austin Hunter Sparks arrives. From the very beginning, this kid was different — full of fire, full of questions, full of light.

2001

The Shadow

At five years old, Austin becomes his uncle Kyle's shadow. Everywhere Kyle went — the skate park, the halfpipe, the parking lot sessions — Austin was right there. Board in hand. Fearless.

The bond begins
2005

Every. Single. Day.

The skate park wasn't a hobby — it was their life. Building halfpipes in the basement. Skating every day after school. Two generations, one board, no rules. This is where SPARX was really born — they just didn't know it yet.

2013

Liftoff

SPARX launches and the energy is electric. Longboards, skateboards, a brand built on purpose. They get invited to the MTV Movie Awards. For a moment, the whole world could see what Austin and Kyle always knew — this was something real.

Life Happens

The excitement faded. Life pulled them in different directions. But the connection never broke. Austin ran the Design Skins shop for years, keeping the entrepreneurial spirit alive. Through every season, through every storm — the bond held.

The Relaunch

December 2022 — SPARX Board Co. reopens as a retail store on Main Street, Danville, VA. Not as a memorial. As a continuation. Hoodies, tees, skateboards, wall art — every piece carrying a message.

After Austin passed, Kyle found his diary. Inside: "One Day or Day One?" and "You Decide." Those words became the heartbeat of the relaunch. Every product quote was chosen asking one question: "What would have helped Austin in his darkest days?"

2024

Online. Everywhere.

The Main Street shop closes its doors — but the movement doesn't stop. SPARX goes fully online, reaching people far beyond Danville. The mission is bigger than any storefront. The spark doesn't need four walls.

To Write Love
on Her Arms.

SPARX Board Co. proudly partners with To Write Love on Her Arms — a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.

Austin's story is too many people's story. Skating was his therapy. For others it's art, music, community, or just knowing someone cares. TWLOHA is there for the people who need to hear "you matter" most.

"If we can just save one person from not going to addiction... then we've served our purpose here." — Mellissa Sparks

Our Story.

Every brand has a reason. Ours has a name — Austin Hunter Sparks.

Chapter One — 1996

A Spark Is Born

Austin — "Sparx" to everyone who knew him — was the kind of kid who made the world feel less heavy. Full of fire, full of questions, full of light.

He skated the way some people breathe: naturally, constantly, without thinking about it. Skating was his therapy.

The Shadow

At five years old, Austin became his uncle Kyle's shadow. Everywhere Kyle went — the skate park, the halfpipe, the parking lot sessions — Austin was right there. Board in hand. Fearless.

They built half pipes in the basement. Skated every day after school. Two generations, one board, no rules. They were inseparable.

"Skating was his therapy. It was how he made sense of the world."

Chapter Three — 2012

The Napkin

Austin, now 14, is working at Kyle's Design Skins shop. One night at Mellow Mushroom in Greensboro, Austin grabs a napkin and starts sketching. "Let's start a brand."

Kyle didn't want the spotlight. He wanted to be the silent person in the background — let the kid shine. That night, SPARX was born. They got invited to the MTV Movie Awards. Two kids from Danville, Virginia making noise.

Chapter Four — 2015–2021

Life Happens

The excitement faded. Life pulled them in different directions. But the connection never broke. Austin ran the Design Skins shop for years, keeping the entrepreneurial spirit alive.

Then we lost Austin. The world got quieter. Then one day, Austin's son looked up at Kyle and said, "Take me to the skate park."

That one sentence changed everything. Kyle heard Austin in those words. And he knew what he had to do — bring SPARX back.

The Relaunch

SPARX Board Co. reopened as a pop-up on Main Street — not as a memorial, but as a continuation.

Brand Manifesto

We don't just make skateboards and apparel.
We make reminders.

Every tee that says "You Matter" is a lifeline in cotton.
Every hoodie that says "Progress Over Perfection" is permission to be human.
Every deck with Austin's name is proof that a spark outlasts the flame.

This brand is built on a napkin drawing and a promise.
And it rolls forever.

SPARX Store

The spark doesn't need four walls.

The Main Street shop closed its doors — but the movement only grew. SPARX lives on, online and everywhere.

The Movement.

We don't have customers. We have crew.

01

Skate Sessions

Monthly local meet-ups. No skill level required. No ego allowed. Just boards, concrete, and people who show up.

02

Creative Collabs

Deck art by local artists. Video projects. Zines. If you make things, we want to make things with you.

03

Youth Programs

Boards for kids who can't afford them. Because the next Sparx might be a 12-year-old with no deck and nowhere to go.

04

Mental Health

Partnered with TWLOHA. Skating was Austin's therapy — we believe it can be therapy for anyone willing to push.
